'The whirling myob' notes: Whirling comes from my passion of whirling dervishes and Sufi tales. I like the idea of whirling around our heart in order to get closer to the Source while the planet earth is whirling around the sun. It all makes sense. Myob is an acronym or abbreviation of 'mind your own business', which is, most of the time the biggest cause of conflict on this planet. Most of the instruments were played and recorded by myself, in my bedroom or at the bookstore where i work in San Francisco. I also used some factory sounds and melodies from Logic when it was necessary. Bakala: Most recent tune, originally composed around the melody of the voice. Most of the instruments are factory sounds, edited. The talking voice is based around Gurdjieff's philosophy and the book 'In search of the miraculous' by Ouspensky, one of Gurdjieff's student. Un tout, le tout: Composed 3 years ago, on acoustic gtr and vocal. Tried to write lyrics for it for a long time, but nothing came up. I decided to use my voice as an instrument, and let the instinctive flow create whatever sounds would fit the song, using a made-up language except for the chorus. 'Un tout, le tout' is French, meaning 'One whole, the whole'. I think i've tried to describe the Source in this song. Until tonic: Pretty old song, from 2002, recorded on a Tascam analog 8 tracks. It's about a break-up. This girl was an amazing flutist with a beautiful voice. I was very creative when we were together. 2 equals one: the oldest song of the album, composed around 1996. Spiritual song about trying to become one and conscious with everything we do. Recorded on the 8 tracks also. The original was much slower. Destroying the plan: Composed on the piano in El Sobrante about 6 years ago while house-sitting for a friend. His girlfriend had a piano. I remember playing that song over and over when i wrote it, and felt like a revolutionary. Peter Jensen, my sound engineer, loved it instantly when he first heard it, thinking it could be the best single of the album. He's planning to shoot a video for it. I think the lyrics are very true to what's happening out there, in our messed-up society, obsessed with consumerism. Les noeuds se défont: It's an anthem dedicated to women in general. Sounds like a soundtrack. Originally composed around the djembe rythm, and the only song written that way, which makes it a complete outsider. Another favorite of Peter. Antistress: A parody of a remedy on how to get rid of stress, just by staring at people's butt in the street, and thinking it's fun and healing. The original idea came from an elephant's butt picture. I think it's hilarious to watch elephants butt when they're walking. Eternal: Another old tune, cute peaceful song about eternity, a bit naive and flowery. Isabelle's voice is very refreshing. La reine de l'été: Song written for a 5 years old niece at the time, so it also sounds sweet and naive. The chorus is in English, trying to describe her reaction when she caught me one morning meditating in the lotus position. She was very curious and surprised. She is 10 years old now, and wants to be a veterinarian. Destroying the plan (Radio edit): Peter mentioned to make that song shorter, since the original is more than 7 minutes. Both versions sounds good to me. Conscentia: Song about global warming, the selfishness and disrespect of some humans, same humans that are actually just 'sleeping machine', sleeping through life.
