Director Kinji Fukasaku's violent post-WWII Japanese gangster saga opens with "Battles Without Honor and Humanity" (1973), as ex-soldier Shozo (Bunta Sugawara) joins the local Yakuza and finds his code of ethics at odds with his new cohorts.
